Introduced in the late 1600s, wooden sash windows became a hallmark of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture. Numerous period properties have them, and they’re still widely used. There is no better way to frame the glorious Devon scenery.
Sash windows’ distinctive design typically features two panels – the sashes – with either several small panes or large sheets of glass. One or both sashes can slide vertically within the frame. Thanks to our impressive craftsmanship, your timber sash windows will glide smoothly, enabling you to open and close them with ease. When closed, the sashes can be locked together for security.
The sashes’ movement is facilitated by spiral balances in our sash windows, while weights perform this role in our box sash windows. The most obvious difference between a sash window and box sash window is the latter requires a more imposing frame to conceal the weights.
Factory applied, three-coat system. Our paints are microporous and available in a variety of colours.
We offer three standard timber types – Hardwood, Abodo and Accoya. Please ask about the benefits of all options.
Our windows are supplied with high-quality multi-point locking systems as standard for advanced security levels.
Our thermally insulated glazing units are sourced and supplied by the leading supplier locally. These are designed for use with our windows and will far exceed any ‘standard’ double-glazed unit. Our beads are applied to the inside of your windows for maximum security.
Our windows are available in traditional or contemporary styles with fully customisable glazing bar designs. We can also offer leaded and stained glass options.
We have carefully selected products for their performance and appearance to complement all our products.
Where Are the Sash Windows Made?
They’re made in our Newton Abbot workshop in South Devon, using time-honoured techniques and cutting-edge computerised technology.
Should I Choose Sash Windows or Box Sash Windows?
Box sash windows can be more suitable for period properties, as they’re more traditional and grand.
Sash windows have slimmer frames and a more contemporary feel, making them an excellent choice for newer buildings.
Is It Better to Replace or Repair Sash Windows?
If you’re unsure about whether you need sash window replacement or restoration, we can examine your property and help you decide.
Generally, it’s advisable to replace sash windows if they have significant structural issues.
What about Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas?
Our surveyors and project managers have years of experience navigating the legal requirements concerning sash windows for listed buildings and conservation areas. We’re committed to helping customers reach their desired outcome.
